Acceleration
RugbyMax helps you develop vital controlled acceleration and deceleration.
Rugby athletes need to accelerate and decelerate at a much higher rate than most other sportspeople. The multi-directional nature of the game, and the need to react to stimuli and impacts make controlled acceleration critical. As with basic speed, technique is important. Arms and shoulders play a key role in generating momentum.
RugbyMax comes into its own when you train to develop the rapid force needed for acceleration. It is optimised to deliver the explosive energy within the large muscle groups of the leg, and to provide the active ingredients to aid recovery and neuromuscular adaptation at the right time in the right amounts.
Training that challenges the triple extension of the joints of the leg, resisted acceleration drills, and forward throwing drills should be part of an acceleration programme. Foot speed drills such as step or ladder drills are also invaluable for developing both components of speed. Acceleration can be worked on as a specific goal, but migrate to training that mimics the type of acceleration you need in game situations.
